God says, “Ask of Me”

In the last week of July, we convened our annual Cornerstone Global Network Conference with 23 countries from 5 continents meeting across the online platform. This global Covid pandemic has thrust us into this engagement, and God should have His way in this pandemic season.

Psalm 2:8 declares, “Ask, and I will give you all the nations; the whole earth will be yours.”Another version says, “Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.”

The picture here portrays the relationship between prayer, asking, and receiving the ends of the earth which belong to Christ. It’s about the nations of the earth praising Jesus as His inheritance.

Hebrews 1:2 says Jesus has been ‘appointed heir of all things’ and we’ve become fellow heirs, joint heirs, and heirs together of the grace of God through Jesus Christ. As God’s adopted children, we share in this inheritance of Jesus.

This is an audacious statement, yet true. Indeed, God has made us His children to those who believe in His name (John 1:12) and to those who love Him, (James 2:5) having full rights to receive His inheritance.

The term ‘heirs of God’ emphasises our relationship to God, which means by right of sonship, we receive our allotted possession, and we’re His beneficiaries.

Traditionally, when parents provide an inheritance for their children, it’s payable upon the parents’ death. This involves the passing on of assets bequeathed to their children as heirs. This acquisition of the family asset is from one generation to another.

However, there’s what we call inheritance theft, where anyone’s inheritance can be stolen. This can take many forms. In the natural, one can manipulate a person’s wishes while they’re still alive, therefore resulting in theft after the death. This is a common problem, even though the estate in question may not be worth millions.

Stolen inheritance can be recovered by requesting that the alleged thief restores or returns it to the estate. This can be done by filing a petition with the court to recover it.

The devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus has died on the cross to purchase men and women for God from every nation, tribe, tongue, and people. Our portion and inheritance is to ask today for more tribes, more tongues, and more peoples.

We subject ourselves to inheritance theft when we fail to realise that it’s been stolen from us – to be manipulated to think that the nations aren’t our right of inheritance. Psalm 24: 1 tells us ‘The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.’

As the earth belongs to our LORD and the fullness thereof, when we petition, pray, and ask, the possibilities are unlimited. This is an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade but is kept in heaven.

Matthew 11:12b says, ‘The kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.’ How many businessmen are looking at opportunities to expand their businesses beyond their borders? How many professionals are thinking of moving beyond their country and taking their services to the nations? How is it that we’re comfortable to sit where we are when God has given us the charge to ask of Him?

We must not desire to stay in a place where we’re just managing, because there’s nothing like managing in the Kingdom of God. Like Jacob who held on to the Angel, we must be tenacious and say, “Unless you bless me, I won’t leave You.”

Isaiah 9:7 reveals the vast Kingdom Jesus will possess. The prophecy tells us, ‘Of the increase of His government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.’

Will we petition for our inheritance and ask for the ability to stretch? Because the same power that raised Christ from the dead works in us, which is the Holy Spirit.

Zechariah 2:11 says, ‘Many nations shall be joined to the Lord in that day, and they shall become My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you.’

In that day, many will bow their knee to King Jesus. As Jesus rent the veil of the temple and His Presence now dwells with us, this global Covid situation cannot keep His children shut in.

Christ’s inheritance is the whole universe and all that’s in existence. “Ask of Me,” says the Lord!
